Completed: Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

In June 2019, the PAMC program funded a one-day workshop sponsored by the City of Hyattsville on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). Over 60 participants, including planners, code enforcement, public works, and law enforcement personnel from municipalities and the county, received an overview of design principles for mitigating criminal activity in the built environment.

In July 2020, the City of Hyattsville followed up with a second PAMC application to provide a more in-depth course. The 36 participants of this virtual eight-day (4-hours per day) CPTED Certification Course all passed an exam at its conclusion and obtained the American Crime Prevention Institute (ACPI) certification.

The American Crime Prevention Institute provides crime prevention and resource materials for law enforcement agencies and community organizations. They focus on law enforcement crime prevention, campus crime prevention, and crime prevention through environmental design. (CPTED).

Dan Keller, Executive Director of ACPI, developed and conducted the CPTED course. Mr. Keller has been directly involved in the administration and coordination of crime prevention programs since 1971 and has lectured at over 300 national crime prevention training seminars.
