Go Prince George's Details
We Heard You!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the development of the Go Prince George’s 2025 Preliminary Plan and who provided their thoughtful and valuable testimony at the March 24, 2026 Joint Public Hearing. We want to ensure that Prince George’s County has a comprehensive transportation plan that provides a clear blueprint to connect Prince Georgians to an integrated, safe, sustainable transportation network that provides access to health care, food, school, jobs, goods and services, and places of interest. Because of this, on May 14, 2026, the Prince George’s County Planning Board of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, at the request of the Prince George’s County Planning Department, remanded the “2025 Preliminary Plan” for Go Prince George’s back to the Department so that the Department can evaluate and, incorporate feedback received at the Joint Public Hearing and more fully address key opportunities and challenges identified during the public and stakeholder engagement process. The Planning Department expects to release a Staff Draft of Go Prince George’s for public review in Spring 2027. Stay tuned for more information at www.pgplan.org/gopgc.

FAQs
What is a remand?
A remand of a Master Plan, Sector Plan, and/or Sectional Map Amendment (SMA) occurs when the Planning Board or the County Council, sitting as the District Council, determines that additional analysis by the Planning Department is required before the Planning Board or District Council may act on the plan or SMA.
Why was Go Prince George’s remanded to the Planning Department?
The Planning Department conducted an analysis of the Go Prince George’s “2025 Preliminary Plan” and recommended that the Planning Board remand the plan back to the Department because the 2025 plan did not fully meet the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance or the County Council’s resolution initiating the planning process and contained numerous errors and omissions that made further action on this plan premature. See the Planning Department’s analysis and recommendations for additional details.
What does this mean for pending development applications and capital projects?
Until a new master plan of transportation is approved, the 2009 Approved Countywide Master Plan of Transportation, as amended by Plan 2035, and all Area Master, Sector, Functional Master, and Transit District Development Plans approved on or subsequent to November 17, 2009, remains the County’s applicable plan for transportation and mobility. Please visit www.pgatlas.com to determine whether you need to consult with the applicable Area Master, Sector, or Transit District Development Plan approved on or after November 17, 2009 or the 2009 Approved Countywide Master Plan of Transportation to identify the applicable transportation recommendations, including master-planned transportation facilities, for a location in the County.
The remand does not change this.
When will a new Staff Draft Master Plan of Transportation be released?
Barring major changes to the County’s current or future transportation network, the Planning Department anticipates releasing a Staff Draft Master Plan of Transportation for public review in the Spring of 2027.
What is Go Prince George’s?
Go Prince George’s is the proposed new functional master plan for transportation in Prince George’s County. It implements Plan Prince George’s 2035, the County’s approved general plan, by setting a guiding vision, supporting goals, and measurable actions to transform the County’s transportation network by creating more travel options, focusing on the movement of people versus solely the movement of vehicles. Upon final approval, Go Prince George’s will update and replace the 2009 MPOT Approved Countywide Master Plan of Transportation and will carry forward or update the transportation recommendations from active area master and sector master plans and recently completed transportation studies.
