Sustainable Communities
“The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development’s (DHCD) Sustainable Communities Program is a place-based designation offering a comprehensive resource package that supports holistic strategies for community development, revitalization, and sustainability. Led by the Department, Sustainable Communities has provided local governments with a framework for promoting environmentally, economically, and socially responsible growth and development in existing older communities.”
– Maryland DHCD
Although most municipalities and communities in Prince George’s County prepared their Sustainable Communities applications and obtained the designation, the Planning Department prepared Sustainable Communities applications and obtained the designation for several municipalities and communities within the county with limited capacity to undertake the task. Planning Department continues to assist in their renewal applications. Sustainable Communities applications prepared by the Department are shown with asterisks.
