Medical Innovation Campus Feasibility Study

The Prince George’s County Planning Department, in conjunction with the Office of The Honorable Sydney J. Harrison, Vice-Chair of the Prince George’s County Council, held a work session for Council District 9 (Planning Subregions 5 and 6) at the Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex. The project team discussed the most recent planning history of Subregions 5 and 6, as well as the benefits of a medical innovation campus using examples of medical innovation districts nationwide. Attendees were asked to provide input on what they believed were the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats pertaining to District 9 and also to the feasibility of the development of a medical innovation campus around the MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital on MD 5 (Branch Avenue), in Clinton.

Overview

The Medical Innovation Campus Feasibility Study will focus on the area around the MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center along the MD 5 Corridor in Clinton.

The purpose of this study is to:

Determine the medical needs and desired services and amenities of stakeholders and community members.
Analyze regional medical competition and evaluate what the market will support.
Determine what zoning, land use, and other regulatory changes will be necessary to achieve the vision and support planned transit opportunities.
Develop a conceptual, illustrative design for a new medical innovation campus.
