Plan Prince George’s 2035 is a comprehensive 20-year general plan that outlines a strategic vision for the county’s growth and development. It aims to position Prince George’s County as a competitive force in the regional economy, a leader in sustainable growth, and a community of strong neighborhoods and municipalities where residents are healthy and engaged.
The plan focuses on key policies by element; land use, economic prosperity, transportation and mobility, natural environment, housing and neighborhoods, community heritage, culture and design, healthy communities, and public facilities. Implementation strategies include prioritization of initiatives, measurement of short- and long-term success, public and municipal engagement, intergovernmental coordination, and public-private partnerships.
For planning purposes, we divide the county into three regions, Northern, Central, and Southern, each made up of three council districts.

Plan Prince George’s 2035 outlines a bold vision for the county’s future, structured around three interconnected themes—Work, Live, and Sustain—each supported by guiding principles developed through extensive community engagement. These guiding principles listed below, aim to direct growth toward transit-oriented centers, prioritize public investments, and preserve natural and cultural resources, ensuring a prosperous and sustainable future for Prince George’s County.
- Concentrate Future Growth – A major component of the plan is to proactively encourage development and to build on our existing infrastructure.
- Prioritize & Focus Our Resources – In order to create a stable source of revenue to invest back into the community, we must focus on targeted areas.
- Build on Our Strengths and Assets – Prince George’s County has numerous strengths and assets on which to build a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable future.
- Create Choice Communities – Strong, green, and healthy communities are the foundation of our county. We must first strengthen our established neighborhoods to ensure a high quality of life for current Prince Georgians.
- Connect Our Neighborhoods & Significant Places – Enhancing mobility and connectivity within the community is vital to the County’s overall health.
- Protect & Value Our Natural Resources – A healthy environment is increasingly a prerequisite for many businesses and workers looking to relocate to the region. Plan 2035 commits to proactively greening our built environment, restoring degraded resources, and promoting a more sustainable development pattern.
