How do I sign up to volunteer?: Visit the Volunteer Service Office page. Once you’ve selected a volunteer opportunity, click “sign up” and you’ll be asked to create an online volunteer application.

1. I am a volunteer with the Department of Parks and Recreation but I’ve forgotten my password to log in. Can you help me?: Contact the Help Desk at 301-699-2255 for assistance in resetting your password. You may also request a Volunteer User Identification and Password card from any community center. This card has a space for you to record your user identification and password for future use.

2. How do I sign up to volunteer?: Visit the Volunteer Service Office page. Once you’ve selected a volunteer opportunity, click “sign up” and you’ll be asked to create an online volunteer application.

3. Can I earn Student Service Learning hours for volunteering?: Students can earn Student Service Learning hours for many volunteer opportunities. Search the “Student Service Learning” box to find those opportunities.

4. I have been court-ordered to volunteer. Can I volunteer with the Department of Parks and Recreation to satisfy the court order?: No.

5. Do I need a criminal background check to volunteer with Parks and Recreation?: Department policy requires that all individuals age 15 and older who volunteer and have access to children, seniors, or other vulnerable populations must undergo a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, before volunteer service can begin. Once you have been interviewed, the coordinator will schedule a time for you to be fingerprinted.

6. How can I volunteer during the summer?: Volunteer opportunities with Summer Playgrounds and Summer Day Camps are some of our most popular volunteer opportunities.
