Wood Duck Monitoring

The Park Rangers maintain the wood duck boxes located at M-NCPPC parks throughout the county. The upkeep includes monitoring the boxes once a year to collect data on fledglings and preparing them for the following season. Each year we increase the number of boxes for existing and new parks in an attempt to raise the current population.

Did you know wood ducks typically nest from late February to July? Nesting mostly occurs in March and April, with an average nest size of twelve eggs at a rate of one egg laid per day.
