Dine & Learn
Dine & Learn sessions are two hours long. During the first segment participants are encouraged to get up and move through an instructor lead exercise routine. Next, participants relax and learn about healthy eating from a Registered Dietician. Lastly, the program wraps up with a step by step healthy cooking demonstration that includes a free sample and a take home recipe. The Dine & Learn program aims to promote healthy lifestyle habits by exposing county residents to physical activity, health, and nutrition education. The goal of the program is to reduce the incidence and prevalence of cardiovascular disease and CVD-related conditions, such as obesity, among Prince George’s County residents. According to Prince George’s County Health Department, “The prevalence of obesity has been increasing among adults and children in Maryland. Poor eating and physical inactivity contribute to overweight and obesity as well as many chronic diseases, including heart disease, some cancers, diabetes, and arthritis. Healthy eating includes the consumption of appropriate portion sizes, fruits and vegetables, good fats, and reducing the intake of salty foods, sugary drinks, and unhealthy fats.” Thus, Dine & Learn participants have the opportunity to reduce incidence of these chronic ailments as they:
- Learn from step-by-step live healthy cooking demonstrations with a Registered Dietician
- Sample FREE freshly prepared healthy foods and take home new healthy recipes
- Discuss the latest trends in nutrition with a Registered Dietician
- Get up and move through instructor lead exercise routines

In honor of National High Blood Pressure Awareness day, join us to learn about ways to prevent and manage high blood pressure. We will explore ways to avoid excessive sodium intake by choosing healthier options and exercise.

Farmer’s Markets 101
To celebrate National Fruit and Vegetable month, we will explore ways to shop smarter at your local farmer’s market without breaking the bank. Explore ways to maximize your meal planning by learning: how to identify fruits and vegetables at their peak ripeness, how to double your spending power by purchasing produce in-season, and how to properly store your produce for staying power.

Smart Foods & Safe Moves
Healthy eating and physical activity go hand in hand. Once you learn the basics, you'll find that eating healthy and staying active are not hard at all. A secret to this success is safety! This month we will learn how to eat better and move more while reducing safety risks.
This is a FREE program. No registration is required. All ages are welcome. Children under 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
